When You Pray

Let me begin by saying, I want everything that God has for Frank Ritchie. I can only want what God has for me, not anyone else. My Christianity and my walk with God will likely not be the same as yours. I am uniquely suited to walk in my own shoes. Now understand that both of us must obey what the Bible says. Our lifestyles will have convictions and morals based on what the Bible says. God is not going to give me or you, permission to do things that violate the principles of His word.

The nice thing about being me is that I do not have to be anyone else.

There are spiritual things that you and I will never grasp or comprehend if we never experience the spiritual. I will never understand God if I never seek Him. I will not be able to grow in God's Word if I never read or study it. It is difficult to dig into the deep things of God if we are not spiritual.

Our own thoughts, understanding and abilities will not accomplish anything eternal. The way we connect to The Lord and see His hand at work in our lives and situations is to pray.

There are things we will never understand about about God until we get into the Spirit. How does that happen? We pray. Jesus was teaching and told the people gathered how to pray. Jesus began by saying, "When you pray" Not if you pray or if you should ever decide to pray. Prayer is one of those things that Jesus placed a lot of importance on. Read Matthew 6:5-15.

John The Baptist in speaking of Jesus said, "I must decrease and He must increase." That is what prayer does for us we decrease when we pray. David told us that the ones that really get God's attention are the ones with broken hearts and contrite spirits. We approach God from a place of dependence and trust.

In Acts 1, Jesus was getting ready to leave His followers and ascend into Heaven, Jesus told His disciples to wait and tarry in prayer in Jerusalem until the promise came. Ten days later the Holy Spirit fell in the Upper Room. Our attitude in prayer needs to be one of waiting.

Wait: expect, look for with patience, eager anticipation, to persevere, continue in, steadfastly wait, to sit constantly beside, wait.

When we pray we expect, we look for with patience and endurance, we eagerly anticipate, we persevere and continue praying, we sit constantly beside our petitions and wait for God to send the answer He promised would come.

Isaiah 43:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

James 5:16

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

The key to seeing the power of God alive in our lives, is to pray.
